[4:49] | Alam tara ila allatheenayuzakkoona anfusahum bali Allahu yuzakkee man yashaowala yuthlamoona fateelan
|  ألم تر إلى الذين يزكون أنفسهم بل الله يزكي من يشاء ولا يظلمون فتيلا
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ يُزَكُّونَ أَنفُسَهُمْ بَلِ اللّهُ يُزَكِّي مَن يَشَاءُ وَلاَ يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلاً |

| ወደእነዚያ ነፍሶቻቸውን ወደ ሚያጠሩት (የሚያወድሱት) አላየህምን አይደለም፤ አላህ የሚፈልገውን ያጠራል፡፡ የተምር ፍሬ ክር ያህልም አይበደሉም፡፡ |
| آل الجلالين | { ألم تر إلى الذين يزكُون أنفسهم } وهم اليهود حيث قالوا نحن أبناء الله وأحباؤه أي ليس الأمر بتزكيتهم أنفسهم { بل الله يزكّي } يطهر { من يشاء } بالإيمان { ولا يُظلمون } ينقصون من أعمالهم { فتيلا } قدر قشرة النواة . |

| মুহিউদ্দীন খান | তুমি কি তাদেকে দেখনি, যারা নিজেদেরকে পূত-পবিত্র বলে থাকে অথচ পবিত্র করেন আল্লাহ যাকে ইচ্ছা তাকেই? বস্তুতঃ তাদের উপর সুতা পরিমাণ অন্যায়ও হবে না। |
| Literal | Did you not see to those who purify themselves, but God purifies/corrects who He wills/wants, and they are not being caused injustice to, (as little as) a cleft in a seed/twine. |
| Yusuf Ali | Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who claim sanctity for themselves? Nay-but Allah Doth sanctify whom He pleaseth. But never will they fail to receive justice in the least little thing. |
| Pickthal | Hast thou not seen those who praise themselves for purity? Nay, Allah purifieth whom He will, and they will not be wronged even the hair upon a date-stone. |

| Malik | Have you not seen those who speak very highly of their own purity even though they are committing shirk. In fact, Allah purifies whom He wishes. If the pagans are not purified, no injustice - even equal to the thread of a date-stone - is being done to them.[49] |

Purification of "Self" i.e. development of the personality can only be achieved according to the Laws of Allah, by service to humanity and not through rituals or mysticism (2:177), (13:17).
