| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ |

[17:73] | Wa-in kadoo layaftinoonaka AAani allatheeawhayna ilayka litaftariya AAalayna ghayrahuwa-ithan laittakhathooka khaleelan
|  وإن كادوا ليفتنونك عن الذي أوحينا إليك لتفتري علينا غيره وإذا لاتخذوك خليلا
وَإِن كَادُواْ لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ عَنِ الَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَفْتَرِيَ عَلَيْنَا غَيْرَهُ وَإِذًا لاَّتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِيلاً |
| Words | |وإن - And indeed,| كادوا - they were about (to)| ليفتنونك - tempt you away| عن - from| الذي - that which| أوحينا - We revealed,| إليك - to you| لتفتري - that you invent| علينا - about Us| غيره - other (than) it.| وإذا - And then| لاتخذوك - surely they would take you| خليلا - (as) a friend.| |

| እነሆ ከዚያም ወደ አንተ ካወረድነው ሌላን በእኛ ላይ ትዋሽ ዘንድ ሊፈትኑህ በእርግጥ ተቃረቡ፡፡ ያን ጊዜም ወዳጅ አድርገው በያዙህ ነበር፡፡ |
| آل الجلالين | { وإن } مخففة { كادوا } قاربوا { ليفتنونك } ليستنزلون { عن الذي أوحينا إليك لتفتري علينا غيره وإذا } لو فعلت ذلك { لاتخذوك خليلاً } . |
| S tidep, qôib i k hewwlen $ef wayen i k d Nweêêa, a d tesnulfuv ayen nniven, mgal a£. D$a, a k rren d aêbib. |
| মুহিউদ্দীন খান | তারা তো আপনাকে হটিয়ে দিতে চাচ্ছিল যে বিষয় আমি আপনার প্রতি ওহীর মাধ্যমে যা প্রেরণ করেছি তা থেকে আপনার পদঙ্খলন ঘটানোর জন্যে তারা চুড়ান্ত চেষ্টা করেছে, যাতে আপনি আমার প্রতি কিছু মিথ্যা সম্বন্ধযুক্ত করেন। এতে সফল হলে তারা আপনাকে বন্ধুরূপে গ্রহণ করে নিত। |
| Literal | And if they were about to/almost to misguide/seduce/mislead you (E) (away) from what We inspired/transmitted to you, to fabricate/cut and split on (about) Us other than it, and then they would have taken you (as) a faithful , close friend . |
| Yusuf Ali | And their purpose was to tempt thee away from that which We had revealed unto thee, to substitute in our name something quite different; (in that case), behold! they would certainly have made thee (their) friend! |
| Pickthal | And they indeed strove hard to beguile thee (Muhammad) away from that wherewith We have inspired thee, that thou shouldst invent other than it against Us; and then would they have accepted thee as a friend. |
| Arberry | Indeed they were near to seducing thee from that We revealed to thee, that thou mightest forge against Us another, and then they would surely have taken thee as a friend; |
| Shakir | And surely they had purposed to turn you away from that which We have revealed to you, that you should forge against Us other than that, and then they would certainly have taken you for a friend. |
| Sarwar | (Such blind ones) try to confuse what We have revealed to you so that they may falsely ascribe to Us something other than the true revelation and thus establish friendship with you. |
| H/K/Saheeh | And indeed, they were about to tempt you away from that which We revealed to you in order to [make] you invent about Us something else; and then they would have taken you as a friend. |
| Malik | O Muhammad! These people have tried to entice you from Our revelations, hoping that you might fabricate something in Our name. Had you done that, they would have made you their friend.[73] |
| Maulana Ali** | And surely they had purposed to turn thee away from that which We have revealed to thee, that thou shouldst forge against Us other than that, and then they would have taken thee for a friend. |

| Khalifa** | They almost diverted you from the revelations we have given you. They wanted you to fabricate something else, in order to consider you a friend. |
| Hilali/Khan** | Verily, they were about to tempt you away from that which We have revealed (the Quran) unto you (O Muhammad SAW), to fabricate something other than it against Us, and then they would certainly have taken you a friend! |
| QXP Shabbir Ahemd** | And, behold, they endeavor to tempt you away (O Prophet) from what We reveal to you (and make compromises in return for accepting you as the King of Arabia and a Prophet) if you invented something of their liking (like authorizing the worship of their false deities or taking back the equality of humans) in Our Name. | Ja he olisivat halunneet houkutella sinua luopumaan siitä, mitä sinulle olimme ilmaissut, tarkoittaen että olisit keksinyt panetteluja Meitä vastaan, ja katso, siinä tapauksessa he olisivat ottaneet sinut läheiseksi ystäväkseen. |
| Na mataan! a mayto bo na khapokas ka iran dn ko iniilaham Ami rka (ya Mohammad), ka an ka Rkami miyangkob so salakaw rkaniyan: Na o giyoto i miyasowa na khowaang ka iran dn a bolayoka! |
| Ahmed Raza Khan | اور وہ تو قریب تھا کہ تمہیں کچھ لغزش دیتے ہماری وحی سے جو ہم نے تم کو بھیجی کہ تم ہماری طرف کچھ اور نسبت کردو، اور ایسا ہوتا تو وہ تم کو اپنا گہرا دو ست بنالیتے |

| Abul Ala Maududi | اے محمدؐ، ان لوگوں نے اِس کوشش میں کوئی کسر اٹھا نہیں رکھی کہ تمہیں فتنے میں ڈال کر اُس وحی سے پھیر دیں جو ہم نے تمہاری طرف بھیجی ہے تاکہ تم ہمارے نام پر اپنی طرف سے کوئی بات گھڑو اگر تم ایسا کرتے تو وہ ضرور تمہیں اپنا دوست بنا لیتے |
