بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Watahsabuhum ayqathanwahum ruqoodun wanuqallibuhum thata alyameeni wathataalshshimali wakalbuhum basitun thiraAAayhibialwaseedi lawi ittalaAAta AAalayhimlawallayta minhum firaran walamuli/ta minhum ruAAban وتحسبهم أيقاظا وهم رقود ونقلبهم ذات اليمين وذات الشمال وكلبهم باسط ذراعيه بالوصيد لو اطلعت عليهم لوليت منهم فرارا ولملئت منهم رعبا
وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ أَيْقَاظًا وَهُمْ رُقُودٌ وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ ذَاتَ الْيَمِينِ وَذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ وَكَلْبُهُم بَاسِطٌ ذِرَاعَيْهِ بِالْوَصِيدِ لَوِاطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَوَلَّيْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِرَارًا وَلَمُلِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ رُعْبًا
 Words|وتحسبهم - And you (would) think them| أيقاظا - awake| وهم - while they| رقود - (were) asleep.| ونقلبهم - And We turned them| ذات - to| اليمين - the right| وذات - and to| الشمال - the left,| وكلبهم - while their dog| باسط - stretched| ذراعيه - his two forelegs| بالوصيد - at the entrance.| لو - If| اطلعت - you had looked| عليهم - at them,| لوليت - you (would) have surely turned back| منهم - from them| فرارا - (in) flight| ولملئت - and surely you would have been filled| منهم - by them| رعبا - (with) terror.|

እነሱም የተኙ ሆነው ሳሉ (ዓይኖቻቸው በመከፈታቸው) ንቁዎች ናቸው ብለህ ታስባቸዋለህ፡፡ ወደ ቀኝ ጎንና ወደ ግራ ጎንም እናገላብጣቸዋለን፡፡ ውሻቸውም ሁለት ክንዶቹን በዋሻው በር ላይ ዘርግቷል፡፡ በእነሱ ላይ ዘልቀህ ብታይ ኖሮ የምትሸሽ ኾነህ በዞርክ ነበር፡፡ ከእነሱም በእርግጥ ፍርሃትን በተመላህ ነበር፡፡
آل الجلالين{ وتحسبهم } لو رأيتهم { أيقاظا } أي منتبهين لأن أعينهم منفتحة، جمع يقظ بكسر القاف { وهم رقود } نيام جمع راقد { ونقلبهم ذات اليمين وذات الشمال } لئلا تأكل الأرض لحومهم { وكلبهم باسط ذراعيه } يديه { بالوصيد } بفناء الكهف وكانوا إذا انقلبوا انقلب هو مثلهم في النوم واليقظة { لو اطلعت عليهم لولَّيت منهم فرارا ولملِّئت } بالتشديد والتخفيف { منهم رعْبا } بسكون العين وضمها منعهم الله بالرعب من دخول أحد عليهم .
Ad as tiniv ukin, nitni îîsen. Ntezzi ten yeffus, zelmev. Aydi nnsen, $ef umnaô, iééel ivaôen is. Lemmer a ten twaliv, ad asen trewlev, si tugdi; a k terkeb, segsen, lefqaâ.
মুহিউদ্দীন খানতুমি মনে করবে তারা জাগ্রত, অথচ তারা নিদ্রিত। আমি তাদেরকে পার্শ্ব পরিবর্তন করাই ডান দিকে ও বাম দিকে। তাদের কুকুর ছিল সামনের পা দুটি গুহাদ্বারে প্রসারিত করে। যদি তুমি উঁকি দিয়ে তাদেরকে দেখতে, তবে পেছন ফিরে পলায়ন করতে এবং তাদের ভয়ে আতংক গ্রস্ত হয়ে পড়তে।
LiteralAnd you think/suppose them (to be) awake/alert, and they are asleep/lying down, and We turn them/turn them around that of the right (side), and that of the left (side), and their dog (is) spreading/extending its two arms (paws) at the cave/doorstep/mountain , if you saw/looked on/over them you would have turned away from them escaping/fleeing/running away, and you would have been filled (by) terror/fright from them.
Yusuf AliThou wouldst have deemed them awake, whilst they were asleep, and We turned them on their right and on their left sides: their dog stretching forth his two fore-legs on the threshold: if thou hadst come up on to them, thou wouldst have certainly turned back from them in flight, and wouldst certainly have been filled with terror of them.

SarwarOne would think them (the youths) awake while, in fact, they were sleeping. We turned their bodies from right to left and their dog stretched its front legs on the ground. Had one looked them over, he would have run away from them in terror.

Maulana Ali**And thou mightest think them awake while they were asleep, and We turned them about to the right and to the left, with their dog outstretching its paws at the entrance. If thou didst look at them, thou wouldst turn back from them in flight, and thou wouldst be filled with awe because of them.

And their dog stretched forth his fore-legs in the mouth of the cave: If thou hadst come suddenly upon them, verily thou wouldest have turned thy back and fled from them, and thou wouldest have been filled with fear at the sight of them.

Khalifa**You would think that they were awake, when they were in fact asleep. We turned them to the right side and the left side, while their dog stretched his arms in their midst. Had you looked at them, you would have fled from them, stricken with terror.
Hilali/Khan**And you would have thought them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them on their right and on their left sides, and their dog stretching forth his two forelegs at the entrance (of the Cave or in the space near to the entrance of the Cave (as a guard at the gate)). Had you looked at them, you would certainly have turned back from them in flight, and would certainly have been filled with awe of them.
QXP Shabbir Ahemd**You would have deemed that they were awake, even when they slept. (They remained alert round the clock). We caused them to frequently change their positions right and left. They had a faithful dog to guard the entrance, with its four paws outstretched, ready to hunt for them. The whole environment was awe-inspiring. Had you come upon them suddenly, you would have turned away from them in flight in awe.
Voisit ehkä arvella, että he olivat valveilla, vaikka he nukkuivat, sillä Me annoimme heidän kääntyä vuoroin oikealle, vuoroin vasemmalle kyljelleen, ja heidän koiransa makasi käpälät ojennettuina kynnyksellä. Na aya tangkap ka kiran na khipag-unaw, a oba di siran na khitotorogn; na gii Ami siran pakakhlikhlidn sa tampar sa kawanan go sa tampar sa diwang: Na so aso iran na igagamba iyan so dowa kamonamona niyan ko gimowa: O maylaing ka siran na katalikhodan ka siran dn sa kapalagoy, go mapnopno ka kiran dn a kalk.
Ahmed Raza Khanاور تم انھیں جاگتا سمجھو اور وہ سوتے ہیں اور ہم ان کی داہنی بائیں کروٹیں بدلتے ہیں اور ان کا کتا اپنی کلائیاں پھیلائے ہوئے ہے غار کی چوکھٹ پر اے سننے! والے اگر تو انہیں جھانک کر دیکھے تو ان سے پیٹھ پھیر کر بھاگے اور ان سے ہیبت میں بھر جائے
Shabbir Ahmed اور سمجھتے ہو تم اُنھیں کہ جاگ رہے ہیں حالانکہ وہ سو رہے ہیں اور کروٹ دلواتے ہیں ہم اُنھیں دائیں طرف اور بائیں طرف اور اُن کا کُتّا پھیلائے بیٹھا ہے اپنے ہاتھ غار کے دہانے پر، اگر کہیں جھانک کر دیکھو تم اُنھیں تو پلٹ جاؤ تم اُن کو دیکھ کر بھاگتے ہوئے اور بھر جائے تمھارا دل اُنھیں دیکھ کر دہشت سے۔
Fateh Muhammad Jalandharyاور تم ان کو خیال کرو کہ جاگ رہے ہیں حالانکہ وہ سوتے ہیں۔ اور ہم ان کو دائیں اور بائیں کروٹ بدلاتے تھے۔ اور ان کا کتا چوکھٹ پر دونوں ہاتھ پھیلائے ہوئے تھا۔ اگر تم ان کو جھانک کر دیکھتے تو پیٹھ پھیر کر بھاگ جاتے اور ان سے دہشت میں آجاتے
Mehmood Al Hassanاور تو سمجھے وہ جاگتے ہیں اور وہ سو رہے ہیں اور کروٹیں دلاتے ہیں ہم انکو داہنے اور بائیں اور کتا ان کا پسار رہا ہے اپنی باہیں چوکھٹ پر اگر تو جھانک کر دیکھے ان کو تو پیٹھ دے کر بھاگے ان سے اور بھر جائے تجھ میں انکی دہشت
Abul Ala Maududiتم انہیں دیکھ کر یہ سمجھتے کہ وہ جاگ رہے ہیں، حالانکہ وہ سو رہے تھے ہم انہیں دائیں بائیں کروٹ دلواتے رہتے تھے اور ان کا کتا غار کے دہانے پر ہاتھ پھیلائے بیٹھا تھا اگر تم کہیں جھانک کر اُنہیں دیکھتے تو الٹے پاؤں بھاگ کھڑے ہوتے اور تم پر ان کے نظارے سے دہشت بیٹھ جاتی
Ahmed Aliاور تو انہیں جاگتا ہوا خیال کرے گا حالانکہ وہ سو رہے ہیں اورہم انہیں دائیں بائیں پلٹتے رہتے ہیں اور ان کا کتا چوکھٹ کی جگہ اپنے دونوں بازو پھیلائے بیٹھا ہے اگر تم انہیں جھانک کر دیکھو تو الٹے پاؤں بھاگ کھڑے ہوئے اورالبتہ تم پر ان کی دہشت چھا جائے
